Piołun is a solo electronic music project by Maciej Połynko. Its name is related to the author's name which in turn originates from "połyn", a word occuring in eastern slavonic languages and referring to a plant called "wormwood" in English (Artemisia absinthium). Its characteristic bitter aftertaste was mentioned in the biblical Book of Revelations ("And the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter"). Wormwood is known mainly as the primary ingredient of the legendary absynth. However, despite the official withdrawal of absynth from the market and St Johns' warnings, wormwood as a plant has maintained its crucial role in magic and traditional medicine.

Piołun to solowy elektroniczny projekt Macieja Połynko. Jego nazwa pochodzi od nazwiska autora, którego źródłosłów wywodzi się z występującego we wschodniosłowiańskich językach słowa "połyn", oznaczającego roślinę gatunku Artemisia absinthium, czyli Bylicę Piołun. Jej charakterystyczny gorzki smak przywołany został w biblijnej Apokalipsie ("I trzecia część wód stała się piołunem, wielu ludzi pomarło od wód, bo stały się gorzkie"). Piołun jest znany przede wszystkim jako składnik legendarnego absyntu. Jednak mimo wycofania absyntu z oficjalnego obiegu i gróźb św. Jana, piołun jako roślina zachował swoje znaczenie w magii i medycynie naturalnej.
